New Coaches

Interested in becoming an athletics coach?

AAAC has a team of over 60 volunteer coaches, but is always looking for new people to assist with the delivery of sessions, allowing for the expansion of the AAAC coaching programme.

A background in athletics is not necessary to join the coaching team as guidance and mentoring is provided. A coach support programme is in development which will help new coaches through the process.  New coaches may start by volunteering, leading to the Assistant Coach Award and Coach Award (see coaching ladder diagram above)–necessary to lead sessions unsupervised.

Please refer to the UK Athletics Coaching Decision Tree Diagram and course descriptions below, illustrating the various qualifications and Coaching Qualifications Pathway.  All qualification courses are run at Aberdeen Sports Village by Scottish Athletics twice per year. Coaching resources are also available from Scottish Athletics
