Inter-Area Track & Field Challenge
Your country needs you!!!
On the 6th July, there will be a representative track and field competition in Coventry. Scotland, Wales, Ireland and various English regional clubs will be doing battle over a full track and field program. The different teams will be Men and Women in the following 4 separate age groups: 35-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.
Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 2000m walk, 80/100/110 hurdles, 4 x 100m relays, HJ, LJ, PV, TJ, SP, HT, JT, DT
In order to be eligible for selection, you need to be:
1. Paid up member of the Scottish Veteran Harriers Club;
2. UKA registered.

Once we get numbers together, we can formulate detailed travel plans. SVHC will make a financial contribution towards travel and accommodation.

“We run over 60 events from mid-May to mid-September and most have running in their programme. We only have two categories Youths 9yrs to 15yrs and adults 16yrs and over. We also run several leagues throughout the season with points being awarded for each event, and this year we are increasing the number of female leagues to try and encourage more females to get involved. Highland games have now been open for many years and therefore it is available to all comers.
Some events are scratch, but about 50% are handicap, which means that more runners will have the opportunity to do well even though they may not be the elite runners within their club, and that can encourage them to remain active in the sport.
We are aware that athletes first commitment will always be to their club, and it is not our intention to try and change that but merely let them be aware that if there is a free weekend or they have not been picked for the team, there is an alternative they may wish to consider, and we ensure them that they will be made very welcome.
The levels of competition and size of the event is quite variable, but normally a very good atmosphere and large crowds, and the opportunity to collect some reasonable prize money to offset travel costs etc.

Entries for the Open Graded on the 7th of April close on Sunday, 31st March. A change from previous years, entries are through Entry Central only and entries will no longer be accepted on the day.
Also, entries for the evening Open Graded on the 17th of April are now open on Entry Central through the 10th of April. The entries for the mid week Open Graded are free. Again, entries are through Entry Central only and entries will no longer be accepted on the day.

Entry Deadline: entries close midnight Sunday 28th April. NO LATE ENTRIES will be accepted or entries on the day. 250 entries maximum.
The relay events are for fun and can be any combination of P6 & P7 children from any school. Names for relays will be taken on day.
Cost: £3 per event.
Declarations/pick up numbers: athletes are to confirm they are competing at least 60 mins before their event start time at the Declaration Area in the indoor Athletics Arena. Numbers are to be worn on the front and the back.
Call Room: athletes must report to the Call Room (holding area) 15 mins prior to their event. The Call Room will be in the Indoor Throwing Circle at the north end of the Indoor Arena. Please note you will need to have completed your warm up before going to the Call Room. From the Call Room, athletes will be taken outside to their event.
Awards: awards for first 3 in each event.
Selection of Finalists: 60m/100m races: finalists will be determined by times from the heats.
600m/800m Races: if more than 16 entries for any 800m race, competitors will be split into sections with no more than 16 in each. First, second and third will be determined by time.

The summer season is almost upon us and to make team selection more efficient it helps if the team managers know who is available and wants to compete at each of the matches where teams are selected.
To help gather this information there are two Google Forms where athletes can register their availability. It would be much appreciated if you could take five minutes to complete the relevant form using the links below.

The first Scottish Women’s League is in Aberdeen on the 14th of April. It doesn’t give the team manager much time to select the team so it is vitally important that the girls and women get their forms completed as soon as possible.
